Residents of Mulugushi Ward in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt Province have raised concern over the safety of the recently rehabilitated bridge connecting Kantanshi and Kamuchanga.
Speaking to Mafken News, Local resident Jackson Sumba expressed concerns that the bridge, which is too small, poses safety risks for schoolchildren who use it daily.
Another resident, Angel Chisala, highlighted the dangers of the one-lane bridge, noting that it creates risky situations where individuals must wait for one another to pass, increasing the risk of accidents in the community.
In response to these concerns, Ward Councillor Jones Mwewa expressed disappointment over the vandalism of public infrastructure.
However, he reassured residents that the local government has allocated additional funds from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for further bridge rehabilitation.
Mr. Mwewa urged the community to refrain from vandalism once repairs are completed, emphasizing the importance of protecting local developments for the benefit of all residents.
