The Community Action Against Corruption (CAAC) Chief Executive Officer, Brightone Tembo, has attributed the $3 billion in illicit financial flows identified by the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) to the UPND government’s alleged lack of capacity and interest in combating corruption, citing self-compromise.

In an interview with Mafken News, Mr Tembo has expressed concerns over recent FIC revelations made by Director General Dr. Clement Kapalu during a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Michael Gonzalez.

He emphasized that these findings, along with previous reports, highlight how the government and law enforcement agencies have provided a lukewarm response to corruption issues.

He further noted that government has shifted its focus from addressing current corruption to punishing the previous regime, the Patriotic Front (PF), while allegedly overlooking its own corrupt practices.

However, United Party for National Development (UPND) consultant Mark Simuuwe has reaffirmed government’s commitment to fighting corruption.
