The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), recently held a stakeholder engagement meeting in Mufulira District, Copperbelt Province.

The meeting focused on strengthening risk communication and community engagement in response to the threats of cholera and monkeypox.

This development follows the announcement by the Minister of Health regarding a confirmed case of monkeypox in Chitambo District, Central Province.

Speaking during the meeting, Senior Health Promotion Officer Joseph Mpakile emphasized the critical role of involving local stakeholders to enhance community awareness and response.

Mr Mpakile noted that stakeholder engagement is essential for disseminating information effectively and reaching communities promptly.

Mufulira District Health Planner Fridah Imwila disclosed that the individual in Chitambo District who tested positive for monkeypox had recently travelled through Mokambo Road, underscoring the need for increased public education on prevention measures to curb the spread of the disease.
