As Zambia celebrates its 60th Independence anniversary today October 24, Transparency International Zambia TI-Z is urging government to come up with concrete and immediate actions to put to a stop all forms of corruption and lack of accountability over public resources.

TIZ Executive Director Maurice Nyambe says government must ensure that anti-corruption institutions, such as the Anti-Corruption Commission ACC and the Financial Inteligence Centre FIC, are truly independent and adequately funded to carry out their mandates without interference.

Mr. Nyambe notes that transparency in public finance management must be a priority, especially in the awarding of contracts and the use of Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

He has since urged government to adopt open contracting standards and make audit findings accessible to the public to enhance accountability.
