UMUZ Calls On KCM To Prioritize Workers Safety

The United Mines Workers Union of Zambia -UMUZ has called on Konkola Copper Mines- KCM management to prioritize workers safety in order to prevent fatal accidents at the mine.

UMUZ President Wisdom Ngwira says the recent two accidents at the mine is an indication that the company needs to improve on its safety measures.

Mr. Ngwira has advised management at KCM to take its employees to health, and Safety refresher courses before starting operations.

Recently Konkola Copper Mines-KCM recorded a second fatality involvingStephen Daka aged 38 who lost his life at the Chingola Open Pit, Nchanga Mine around 13:00 hours.

Meanwhile, KCM has shut down some operations in Chililabombwe, Chingola, Kitwe and Nampudwe in order to conduct thorough reviews of safety procedures and their application.
