Minister of Energy Makozo Chikote announced that government is developing a system to ensure the TAZAMA pipeline operates at 100% capacity.
This revelation came in response to Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony, who inquired about the timeline for full utilization of the pipeline and raised concerns about reports of limited access for certain clients.
The Minister clarified that he is unaware of any specific individual monopolizing the pipeline. However, he noted that a player involved in cleaning the pipeline was compensated in kind by government to recover invested capital.
He emphasized that measures are being implemented to promote transparency in pipeline operations, with government advocating for open access to the pipeline.
Additionally, Mr Chikote refuted claims that Zimbabwe’s recent customs law changes, which include a tariff increase, were aimed at Zambia.
Responding to Lundazi Member of Parliament Brenda Nyirenda, he clarified that the recent increase is not directed at Zambia but is part of Zimbabwe’s internal policy adjustments to address operational inefficiencies.
The Minister also assured that government is actively engaging with the Zimbabwean government to find a resolution to this matter.
In his Ministerial statement regarding the erratic fuel supply in the country, he urged citizens not to panic, as measures have been put in place to stabilize the situation.
