Program Aimed At Recognizing Heroes In Independence Struggle Launched

A program tailored at recognizing the contribution of the forgotten Heroes and Heroines’ of Zambia’s independence struggle has been drawn.


This is being spearhead by the Harry Mwanga Nkumbula Foundation in conjunction with Southern African Institute for Policy and Research.

And speaking to Mafken News in Lusaka, chairperson of Board of Directors for the Harry Nkumbula Foundation, Ompie Nkumbula said the foundation will also convene a two days conference ahead Zambia’s Independence Day to pay homage to surviving veterans of independence struggle.

Ms. Nkumbula further disclosed that the meeting will also take a reflection with regards to tribalism, politics of exclusion and the age-old habit of hero-worshipping leaders as well as the building of personality cults.

Republican president Hakainde Hichilema officially opened the Harry Mwanga Nkumbula Foundation in April this year.
