Mines Ministry Hands Over Rehabilitated Tailing Dam in Mufulira

The Ministry of Mines has officially handed over the rehabilitated Tailing Dam Number 10 in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt Province.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mines Ministry Permanent Secretary Hapenga Kabeta encouraged the public to draw lessons from the project, emphasizing the crucial role of mining operations in promoting environmental health.
Mufulira Mayor Tanaeli Kamanga expressed satisfaction with the rehabilitation, noting that the dam had previously been in poor condition.
Meanwhile, Zambia Mining Environmental Remediation and Improvement Project (ZMERIP) National Project Coordinator Pamela Mwanza described the handover as a new beginning, underscoring the need for continued involvement of local communities and stakeholders to ensure the dam’s safety and long-term effectiveness.
