The United Mines Workers Union of Zambia – UMUZ has called on the government to quickly find a way of incorporating illegal miners on the Copperbelt Province as a way of ending illegal mining in the province.
UMUZ President Wisdom Ngwira says the only way government will end illegal mining in the province is to incorporate illegal miners into cooperatives that will allow government to monitor if safety measures are being following in dumpsites
Mr.Ngwira adds that it will be impossible for government to stop illegal mining in the country if a big number of youths remain unemployed and are depending on illegal mining to fend for their families.
Meanwhile, Mines and Minerals Development permanent secretary Hapenga Kabata has warned that government will no longer entertain acts of illegality in the mining sector and that those found wanting will face stiffer punishing According to the laws of Zambia.
