As Zambia joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Mental Health day, a mental health activist Francis Chipalo has called on employers to work towards improving mental health of employees at work places.
World Mental Health Day is commemorated every year on October 10, and this year’s mental health theme set by the World Federation of Mental Health is “workplace mental health”.
Mr. Chipalo tells Mafken News that the theme for this year highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities.
The mental health activist has also underscored the need for government to invest in mental health centres starting from a community level all the way to putting up infrastructure specifically for mental health services.
He adds that by investing efforts and resources in evidence-based approaches and interventions at work, employers will ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive at work and in life.
