Mines and Minerals Development permanent secretary Dr. Hapenga Kabeta says government has introduced formalization of mining licences as one way to curb illegal mining in the country.
Dr. Kabeta has expressed worries that despite this move, many people have continued to involve themselves in acts of illegal mining and in most cases resulting into deaths.
He has told Journalists at the ongoing mining and investment Insaka in Lusaka that to this effect, government has gone a step further to offer capacity building to the said illegal miners so that they conduct their activities legally.
Dr. Kabeta further warned that government will no longer entertainment acts of illegality in the sector adding that those found wanting will face stiffer punishments.
