FRA Pays Out Over 3 Billion Kwacha To Farmers

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has purchased Five Hundred and Eighty-Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty-Four Metric Tonnes of non-genetically modified Grade A white maize from the local market during this year’s crop marketing season.
The purchased quantity is equivalent to Eleven Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty-Seven Thousand, and Ninety-Three by Fifty Kilogramme bags of white maize.
FRA Public Relations Coordinator John Chipandwe has also announced that as at 9th October, 2024, a total of three Billion Kwacha was paid out to maize suppliers representing a 73 percent achievement rate.
The Agency has also assured farmers that are yet to be paid that payments are currently on-going based on the principle of first-come-first served basis and soon all farmers will be cleared.
Mr. Chipandwe has also revealed that in order to respond adequately to the current drought situation in the country, the Agency has been implementing various strategic methods of buying maize from the local market beyond the traditional mode of buying using satellite depots.
