TheĀ Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has attributed the current fuel shortage in some parts of the country to logistical challenges.
Most service stations in Lusaka and on the Copperbelt, among other parts of the country, have run out of the commodity with motorists struggling to fuel their cars.
A check by Mafken news this morning, at most gas stations in Kitwe found that fuel was out of stock while motorists had to endure queuing up for long hours at stations that had fuel.
In a statement availed to Mafken news, ERB-Public Relations Manager Namukolo Kasumpa has revealed that cross-border logistical challenges has been identified to be one of the primary causes of the fuel shortages.
Ms. Kasumpa has noted the persistent congestion at the port of Beira, which is likely to exacerbate as the Government of Mozambique has declared 9th October, 2024 as a public holiday to allow citizens to participate in the general elections, which is likely to cause further delays in loading of petroleum products.
She has however assured citizens that it is proactively addressing the localized fuel shortages in various parts of the country by implementing targeted regulatory measures to restore nationwide supply and ensure a reliable fuel supply chain.
