1 Infant Dead, 19 Others Injured In Road Traffic Accident Along Luanshya Mpongwe Road

An infant between the age of 6 months to one year has died while 19 others have sustained various injuries in a fatal road accident which occurred on 30 September, 2024 around 15:30 hours along Luanshya-Mpongwe road.
Involved was a Mitsubishi Fuso Registration number BCA 6530 which was extensively damaged in the front part and was being driven by an unknown driver of unknown abode whose injuries are not known as he ran away after the accident.
On board were passengers an infant particulars not known but aged between 6 months to 1 year who sustained fatal injuries and died upon arrival at Thomson General Hospital while 19 others between the ages of 15 and 41 complained of general body pains.
The accident happened when the Motor Vehicle was being driven from Luanshya to Masaiti direction and in the process, the driver lost control and the vehicle flipped on the right side of the road due to overtaking improperly on a curve.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba who confirmed the incident to Mafken News says all the victims have been admitted to Roan Antelope Hospital and their condition is said to be stable.
