A Non-Governmental Organization, Action for Development is calling on mining companies to implement entrepreneurship programs to equip miners with the skills and knowledge necessary to sustain themselves post-retirement.
Organisation Coordinator Joseph Simumba, has noted that many miners spend the majority of their working hours underground, limiting their exposure to other potential sources of income.
He says the lack of diversification makes it a challenge for them to transition into a financially secure retirement.
Mr.Simumba has emphasized the importance of providing miners with entrepreneurial training, which could include business planning, financial management, and marketing strategies.
