The Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) has announced critical provisions of the newly enacted ZAQA Act, which regulates and maintains standards for qualifications in Zambia. The Act came into effect on August 18, 2024.

During a press briefing at the ZAQA headquarters, Director General Mercy Ngoma emphasized the importance of verifying qualifications to ensure they are recognized and legitimate.

Ms Ngoma stated that only qualifications awarded by recognized institutions following standard procedures are valid.

She urged all qualification holders to verify their credentials with ZAQA, stressing that this is essential for learners seeking enrolment in recognized institutions and facilitates educational mobility.

The Director General also highlighted the penalties for non-compliance with the new Act, which include a fine of up to K5, 000 or imprisonment for up to five years for those who do not adhere to the qualifications verification process.
