A 25-year-old security guard at Mopani Copper Mines in Mufulira district on the Copperbelt has been stabbed by a 16 year old juvenile of Kakonyo Township.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peace well Mweemba tells Mafken News that the incident occurred on 12th September 2024 at 11:20 hours at the Sink Hole area.

Brief facts of the matter are that, the victim identified as Manase Robert, a dog handler under Panorama Security, was on duty at Pump 49, within the sink hole area of the mine.

While on duty, he encountered the juvenile a grade 11 pupil at Butondo secondary school who was allegedly attempting to steal copper-related materials from the mine premises.

In an effort to apprehend the suspect, the victim’s dog bit the juvenile prompting the teenager to retaliate by stabbing the victim in the right arm with a knife.

Mr. Mweemba reveals that the victim managed to restrain the suspect with the assistance of fellow security personnel, who responded after hearing his calls for help.

Both the victim and the suspect were taken to Ronald Ross Hospital, where the victim received treatment for his injuries and the juvenile was administered an anti-rabies injection before being detained.
