Governance and Development Advocates Zambia have noted with concern the lacunas that they say some major stakeholders are intentionally ignoring when it is in public domain that the current Clauses in the Constitution may warrant extension of time within which to hold the tripartite general elections.
Executive Director Elias Mulenga says sugar coating the current state of the constitution mounts to an assault to Zambia’s Democracy.
Mr. Mulenga says the onus is not on a date or day of elections but suffices on the candidature of the Presidential Candidates which is not clear as it allows any candidate to withdraw after filling in of their nominations a situation that warranties to cancellation of the entire electoral processes as cited by the Constitution.
He tells Mafken News that the assertions by President Hichilema that there could be no polls for a period of 8 to 9 year is an eye opener and an indication that the President is open to the Zambian people and has no intentions of overriding on the loopholes in the Constitution of Zambia.
