Media Network on Child Rights and Development –MNCRD- has applauded media houses that empowered children to effectively participate in their news and programming on their radio and television stations during this year’s International Day Of Children’s Broadcasting –ICDB.
Speaking in a statement availed to Mafken FM radio, MNCRD Executive Director, Henry Kabwe explains that this year’s ICDB theme, ‘Children’s Rights; Children’s Voices – Our Collective Responsibility’ suggests that stakeholders work together to promote effective, safe and empowering involvement of children from homes to national government processes.
Mr Kabwe further explains that, children who participate in schools and Community developmental projects such as the CDF will spend more time thinking about what they could do for their country other than involving themselves in vices such as gangs, crime, alcoholism and illicit sex.
And, in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt, Mafken FM Radio Yesterday gave control of the airwaves to children from various schools to showcase their broadcasting talent.
The children took over control of the Radio station in areas of presenting a variety of content as well as casting the news.
Some of the children talked to by Mafken FM news say they were delighted to be part of the commemorations.
Dalitso Banda and Patience Chansa called for collaborative efforts to strengthen the rights of children at all levels of decision making.
And, one of the teachers from Mano School, Annie Amutike expressed happiness that children have been given a chance to express their feelings as well as share with others about their experiences through radio.
