STAKEHOLDERS RECEIVE DIRECTIVE TO CHANGE MONTHLY FUEL REVIEW WITH MIXED FEELINGS

Written by on 10 October 2023

Some residents of Mufulira district on the Copperbelt have received President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to the newly appointed Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary Peter Mumba to urgently change the monthly fuel price review to a more stable system with mixed feelings.

Yesterday, during the swearing in of Mr. Mumba, at state house, President Hichilema noted that a more stable review system that is beyond the one-month period will be good for planning and doing business in the country.

And in reaction to this in an exclusive interview with Mafken FM Radio Nicholas Chisenga a resident laments that fuel drives the country’s economy and stability in the price of fuel equates to stability in the price of commodities.

Agness Chilungu, another resident has advised the newly appointed PS to follow the president’s directive and find a long lasting solution soon because the monthly pump price review has not been valuable in anyway.

Meanwhile Wilfred Bwalya states that the Government should stick to their pronouncements and promises they made to the Zambian people the time they were in opposition to stabilize the economy.

Mr. Bwalya has further encouraged the Government to emulate and seek for Guidance from their predecessors the patriotic front –PF- in that the price of fuel was stable during their tenure adding that they should also reintroduce the fuel subsidies.

But Energy Expert Boniface Zulu says subsidies are not so good for the economy but at a certain extent reintroducing them will be for the greater good of every Zambian.

Mr. Zulu tells Mafken FM Radio that there is so much that the Government needs to do in order to rectify the situation because demand on the international market for petroleum products has increased due to the escalating war in Ukraine and Russia.
