Written by on 14 August 2023

A 60-Year-old Forestry Department neighborhood watch officer in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt has allegedly been gruesomely murdered by unknown people.

The incident occurred in the early hours of today, August, 14, 2023 at around 06:00 hours near Mufulira air strip.

Confirming the development to Mafken FM radio, Copperbelt Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba has identified the deceased as Sunday Mbumba Ndumba, a resident of Kamuchanga Township who is also a businessman and a congregant at Chibote’s Church of Christ.

Mr. Mweemba reveals that the body of the deceased was discovered in a pool of blood by Leonard Ndumba aged 57, near the air strip as he was making his way to his farm.

He says a police officer only known as Sergeant Musuku who was manning a mobile unit check point along Mufulira-Ndola road was then informed, who identified the deceased and later reported the matter to Mufulira central police station.

He says it is suspected that the deceased had gone to the area in the early hours with a view of arresting suspected charcoal burners the trend he has been doing all along and was once advised to avoid carrying out the operations alone.

He adds that investigations indicate that he was hit using an unknown instrument whilst he was seated on a motor bike.

Mr Mweemba has further disclosed that the body of the deceased has since been deposited at Kamuchanga hospital mortuary and investigations into the matter have been instituted.
