MINING EXPERT OPTIMISTIC ABOUT NEW INVESTOR FOR MOPANI AND KCM

Mining expert Edward Simukonda says he is optimistic that the long-awaited announcement of a new investor for both Mopani Copper Mines and Konkola Copper Mines –KCM- will bring in effective strategies to ensure the survival and success of both mining companies.
Government through the Minister of Finance and National Planning, Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane recently announced that progress had been made in finding suitable investors for both Mopani and KCM and that, the investors that will take over the two mines are expected to be picked by the end of this month from the shortlisted four companies.
Mr. Simukonda expressed his enthusiasm for this development, highlighting the government’s dedicated efforts in finding capable investors to manage these mines, noting that, it is important to bring in those that will not only address the current challenges faced by mines but also ensure their long-term stability.
Meanwhile, Kankoyo Member of Parliament Heartson Mabeta has urged government to consider the welfare of the people of Mufulira and the Copperbelt when making their decision.
Mr. Mabeta tells Mafken FM radio that, government needs to focus on the interests of the Zambian people rather than solely considering the reputations of the potential investors.
