The Opposition Patriotic Front –PF- has disputed claims that they failed to restructure debt while they were in office.
Speaking when he featured on a radio program in Lusaka, PF Chairperson for Information and Publicity, Raphael Nakacinda says it is a misrepresentation to suggest that they failed to restructure debt in the country citing that they just took a different approach.
Mr. Nakacinda says PF’s repayment program and plan was highly affected and compromised by the first hit of climate change effects that saw the country reduce production levels in mainly agriculture and other sectors.
He says the Covid-19 Pandemic also affected the repayment program in that, it shut down the entire global economy.
He notes that, it was only prudent that some of the obligations that were to be undertaken were affected by the calamities and the, stating that, if it was not for that his party would have started to engage the creditors.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nakacinda believes that there is no reason to celebrate the recent debt restructuring deal, as it suggests an admission of incompetence by the UPND Government in effectively utilizing the country’s resources to repay the debt.
