Residents of Mufulira district have bemoaned the bad state of the township roads in the district..

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Mafken FM Radio, Mufulira Private Taxi’s Association President Chimozi Sakala says this has been an ongoing problem that needs to be rectified soon.

Mr Sakala says patching of the roads by the Mufulira Municipal Council is not a permanent solution to the deplorable state of the roads in the district.

He has appealed to the Government to find a permanent lasting solution to the construction of the roads before the next rain season.

Meanwhile, Mufulira Municipal Council Public Relations Manager Thandiwe Tembo says, the council has set aside One Million, seventy three thousand, three hundred Kwacha for road maintenance in the District.

Miss Tembo says the road maintenance will be done in all the 30 wards of the District and which will involve pothole patching, gravelling and clearing of roads which have become impassable as well as drainages which may have been blocked during the rainy season.

She adds that, some of the road works in the respective wards will be done with the help of the ward development committees -WDC’s- in their respective wards adding that the works will commence as soon as the rains come to an end.
