The Zambian government has announced it will begin to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to adolescents from 12 years upwards following an increasing trend of infections, severe disease and even deaths among them.
Health Minister Sylvia Masebo announced today that Zambia will administer the Pfizer vaccine which has been shown to be safe and effective in children from 12 years upwards.
Presenting the resolutions of the Council of Ministers on Disaster Management on COVID-19 Booster doses and vaccination in children which sat on Tuesday, Ms. Masebo said the introduction of the vaccination of children will ensure that they are also protected from the pandemic.
She said government has already embarked on several initiatives to mobilise additional vaccine stocks and logistics required for their deployment to cater for the growing need for the vaccines.
